Dr SP Singh Yadav's Biography
Dr SP Singh Yadav was born on April 6, 1942, at Ahrola Nawabad village in Gunnaur tehsil of Badaun district in Uttar Pradesh. His father Late Chaudhari Bhay Singh was a major landlord, while his mother Late Mrs Hoshwati was an educated and wise woman.
He received primary education at the Primary School, Manikawali, and junior high school education at Junior High School, Dabthara. He did ninth from Mu Inter College, Ujhani and 10th from Barahsaini High School, Chandausi. During intermediate and graduation he studied at SM College, Chandausi, which he later joined as teacher. He did his post graduation in Geography from DS College, Aligarh, and stood second in Agra University. He did Ph D from Agra University in 1978 under the guidance of Prof. (Dr) AR Tiwari, a Ph D from London. Lastly, he did LLB from 1984 from KGK College, Moradabad, and stood second in Rohilkhand University, Bareilly.
Dr Yadav was appointed lecturer in the Department of Geography of SM College, Chandausi, on July 15, 1963. He proved to be a successful teacher, high quality educationist, friend of teachers and social worker during his career. He held several positions during his stint with SM College:
- Sports in-charge from July 1, 1970, to June 30, 1987
- Head of the Geography Department from July 1, 1972, to June 30, 2002
- Assistant superintendent of university examinations from 1971 to 1983
- Additional superintendent of university examination in 1984
- Acting principal from November 27, 1984, to February 1985
- Senior superintended of university examination in 1985
- Warden of Rani Ramkali hostel from 1988 to June 2002
- Convener Admission Committee, member Proctorial Board and convener Fee Concession Committee
As sports in-charge, his achievements are unparalleled. He popularised Geography subject amongst the students, gave very good results, got a separate building constructed for the department, and started post graduate classes in the subject. A total of 12 students have received Ph D degree in his guidance.
At a time when copying was a rule in the examinations in the state, Dr Yadav was successful in holding fair examination in the college from 1971 to 1987 because of his strict discipline. A total of 36 teachers of SM College boycotted university examination in 1984. Dr Yadav conducted the examination with great bravery. He caught one of the teachers of the college copying in MA Economics examination and reported the case to the university. He taught the boycotting teachers a lesson and till date no teacher in the college has dared to boycott the examination.
For solving immediate problems of the college, the management committee appointed him acting principal of SM College on November 27, 1984. During a short period, he solved many problems. For this, the management committee presented him a scroll of honour.
During his career, he has authored nine books on different aspects of Geography. These books are very popular all over the country.
Dr Yadav always worked for the interests of teachers and employees of SM College and Rohilkhand University. It was therefore but natural that he was always interested in political activities. He was elected president of Rohilkhand University Teachers’ Association in 1986 with a margin of 80-15.
The pinnacle of his political career came when he was elected to Parliament as a member from the Sambhal parliamentary constituency in 1989 on Janata Dal ticket by defeating Congress rival. In the next elections, he defeated candidate Bharatiya Janata Party candidate. Thus he was MP for two consecutive terms. As MP he was member of five committees: Water Resource Committee, Public Undertaking Committee, Public Accounts Committee, Commerce Standing Committee and Telecommunications Committee.
As MP, Dr Yadav toured countries like Germany, Italy, Denmark, Russia and Japan. He participated in the International Parliamentary Union meeting organised at Copenhagen, capital of Denmark from September 13, 1993, to September 18, 1993, as a member of six MP team, and presented views of the Government of India.
Dr Yadav’s speeches in parliament on hawala episode, criminalisation of politics, railway budget, finance bill, foreign policy, etc., were very serious and effective. He has played critical role in establishing a number of industrial units (sugar mills at Majhawali and Asmoli), educational institutions (Navodaya Vidyalayas at Gunnaur, Badaun district, and Thakurdwara, Moradabad district, Baburam Singh Bhaysing Degree College, Babrala, MGM College Sambhal, Model Public Law college and Model Public Education College, Chandausi, improvement of buildings of BMG Inter College and NKBMG College, Chandausi), and Sports Complex.
He has been founder of the following educational institutions:
